ARCHT 61
Inspiration:
For the introductory architectural design class, the instructors wanted to eliminate the use of textbooks because they are costly and not explicitly related to what is learned in the class. Instead, the class is designed around a series of tutorials developed by the instructor, and the OER is conceived as supporting documents to those lectures.
These tutorial notes function similarly to the architectural software books on the market, walking students step by step through commands – but here the instruction perfectly aligns with the video tutorials, something that would have not been possible with a typical textbook. What is also important to note is that this course covers multiple software – which would have resulted in multiple books for appropriate support.
As many OER’s, this book becomes a work in progress and exists as a Google Document embedded in the Canvas, allowing for easy revision and dissemination. Over the coming months the material will be integrated with GIF’s of corresponding commands – at that point the OER would surpass the effectiveness of any costly textbook.
