Overview of e-Books

According to Nelson (2008), " e-book is an electronic book that can be read digitally on a computer screen, a special e-book reader, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or even a mobile phone.

Libraries and patrons are turning to e-books because there are some advantages to reading an e-book.  The advantages are listed below (Camosun College Library Libguides on Ebooks, 2011):

  • e-books can be accessed 24/7
  • the e-books are always available to you
  • e-books can be accessed from the Library, computer labs, or at home with your Student ID and Password (your last name)
  • contents of e-books are fully text searchable
  • no overdue late charges!
